Community service is an integral part of every Destino Abroad trip. Our community service projects are designed to expand our students’ understanding of cultural differences while instilling a sense of responsibility and compassion. Moreover, through interaction with native speakers, our students are once again afforded an opportunity to develop their Spanish conversational skills.
Service projects vary according to the needs of the local community. Past Destino Abroad projects include teaching English at local schools, building a community playground, and working with environmental protection programs. Each student performs 10-20 hours of service per week while enrolled in the program.
Students may apply the hours of community service earned towards their requirements at school. Former Destino Abroad students have also used the service experience to bolster the extra-curricular portions of their college entrance applications. After completion of the program, each student receives a detailed letter documenting his or her service work.
